Depends I had an 01 Buell X1 with EFI and it sucked ***. Spent more time in the shop than it did at home. My 07 deluxe is much better. Much better running.I love it plus you don't have to turn the gas on and off.

Will the same fuel management deal with a high flow air filter and exhaust? Thanks

Cold starts are the best with EFI..... It fires right up.

You still need to let it warm up to ensure long life of your motor. Let the oil get everything lubricated before you start with the high revs. That is true on ANY motor of ANY vehicle.

The manual says EFI's take 15 to 30 seconds to warm up before you should rev it higher than idle. How long do the carbed models take?
[/quote]

15-30 minutes, you'll have time for a smoke while the evos are warming up.

I got both a 79 flh and a 08 cross bones, the 79 got a s&s carb on it, starts up just as quick maybe even a little faster then the bones, 79 takes about a minute or 2 down the rode before I shut down the choke( yes I know its not a choke on a s&s but cant remember the name at this time) hell to get old(LOL). carbs never gave me a problem, and hopefully the EFI wont either. The only thing i dont like is all the bullshit you have to do just to put a set of pipes on the EFI's, compared to the carbs, my old harley shop years ago when they used to care and know your name beforethey sold itwould just toss you some jets to try out and bring the rest back for your carb.

I'm onto my third efi bike. The first was a 2006 dyna 1450 cc which i installed a PCIII. At first I did not need a PCIII. Although there are no qualified PCIII mechanics here and no suitable dynos, I was able to get a good map thanks to some guys in Australia. I had to sell the Dyna and then bought a brand new efi suzuki gsx1400. Low and behold the stock efi was woeful and I just gave the bike back to the dealer as it couldn't work at 2000 rpm and during descent with no throttle it kicked like a wild horse. Now I have an efi 08 softail and it is sweet. It is stock and fine. One difference in EFI and carbed models is smoothness at critical points. You have to accept this until the computers can work it out. So no matter what, you will still experience some surging with an EFI Harley, though it will be offset by the weight and torque.

If we need to have the dealer upload a new program for our new items on the bike, is their a cheaper way to do it? I hear the power commander is very expensive especially if your only going to use it a few times?

ORIGINAL: *NIGHT TRAIN*

I have a couple of friends with EFI bikes with the "potato" ...
A SERT can be used to knock the idle down to the needed 850 rpm range...my dealer does it all the time...
Your dealer does that all the time?? I think there is a limit that you can safely do that on any of the TC's. 950 I believe is the limit. Anything lower and you risk starving the heads and valve trainof oil. That's why the rpms are higher on all of the TC's.Most are 1050 to 1150.

I think your numbers are a little off, or your dealer is a moron. I'd find a new dealer if that's the case. Could be another reason MOCO won't warranty a SERT. Too many guys trying to get their TC's to sound like a shovel or Evo and thrashing their top ends.

When I first got my 07 Custom, I asked the dealer about lowering the idle and they told me the same thing that hetwood727 stated; on a twin cam you can't lower the idle too low or it will eventually cause engine failure.
