Hopefully I never get caught out in the rain....

Call me what you want but I dont want my new bike in the rain. Plus it seems to me that it would be more dangerous. I have 4 kids and I cant chance getting hurt.

My father in law has a 1951 Panhead and he has owned since it was new. He doesnt ride in the rain either and I consider him a biker not a yuppie.

First rule, Never say Never!! You ain't a real member/rider til' you have to stop for fuel and pour water out of your boots. Slowin' down to 20 mph on the highway just to stay safe cuz it's pourin' and puddlin' everywhere, felt like I had to watch my wake passin' cars and smilin' and givin' them the ol' head nod, [sm=biker.gif]. Now that's real bikin' and an unforgettable experience! It'll sure tighten and puckerup your ol' butt muscle!! [sm=happybounce.gif]

It is only 2 weeks old.... but I find that it gets dusty quickly. I like to clean the windshield, dust it off and make sure the chrome is clean before every ride. I tried a little window cleaner on the the chrome for the dust but it made streaks.
My bros make fun of me because I keep my bike very clean, but I will ride it in the rain. I used to live on a gravel lane, so it was going to get dirty anyway. I just make sure to rinse it off and dry it real well before I put it up if I was caught in the rain. But I did buy my bike to ride, so unless it is snowing, I'm riding! Why would I pay thousands of dollars for a garage ornament? Relax bro, your Hog is waterproof and begging to hit the open road. And with a little work, it will look just like it did when you bought it......even if it gets wet!

That is a pretty shitty reply to the guy. I don't blame him, I won't ride mine in the rain either. It has something to do with loving your bike and not wanting to get it all ****ed up in the rain. If you ride in the rain, you will NEVER, I repeat NEVER, get it looking like it did at the showroom.

So I guess I am a yuppie too[sm=shutup.gif]
I don't know if you bought some model that I am not aware of with some kinda special finish, butI canmake my scooter look as good as it did the day I bought it. Hell, I keep mine looking better than the dealer could ever make it look.

I think the point everyone is trying to make is.........just get over yourself and ride!

It used to bother me when I would be at the local hangout and some rich kid would ride up on his brand new Fat Boy with $5,000 worth of chrome accesories, wearing his $500 H-D jacket and $200 H-D chaps, $250 H-D vest, H-D T-Shirt, H-D do-rag, $50 H-D gloves, and $150 H-D boots, and his "look at me, I'm a biker" attitude. I got over it, though. I've learned that some people buy Harleys to show off and draw attention, while the rest of us buy Hogs to light up the road and share experiences with our bros on cross-country trips. So, if your worried about getting water spots on your chrome (I promise you they will come off with a little polishing), then I guess you fall into the first group and that is fine. Life is all about choices. [sm=itsok.gif]

If it gets wet then it gets wet. I just dont think it sounds like much fun to ride in the rain. Dirt will clean off too but it doesnt sound like much fun to ride it down a dirt road. The weather doesnt stop me from hitting the road. I havent evenhad it 2 weeks and I have about 400 miles on it. I live in So Cal. If it is raining today then I will drive my car and thenit will be sunny tomorrow and I will ride my Harley. I ride for fun. It doesnt sound like fun to ride in the rain.

For the record..... I never claimed to be a biker, Idont own any leather. I ride in myThsirt, Jeans and Tennis Shoes. I did just buy a brand new Harley for $ 21k..... I just dropped another $7k on accesories. It is my first bike and I love it.I liked this forum too but I am quickly feeling that I am not wanted here. I thought we all had something in common.... we own a Harley and we love to ride.Sorry if you guys think I am a yuppie.

Now that sounds like fun.... But I have a wife and 4 kids. They are 8, 10, 12 and 13 (2 are adopted) so I dont get a chance to get out overnight very often. The kids have lots of sports. If I ever do that sounds like a good time. For now I have to settle for local day runs.
