Default Carb Question

Im wanting to rejett my carb. Ive got the carb off and Im ready to go. Im going to raise the needle with 2 #4 washers and drill out the Idle/mixture to get to the screw. While I have the carb off should I change the main and slow jet. I have a 2002 NighTrain with S&E open aircleaner and V&H longshots. I think its running lean because of slow warm up and Carb cough. Any suggestions would be great!

If you have the high flow air cleaner and pipes, but the carb is still stock, you're definitely running lean. You can leave the slow jet alone (it should be a #45). The main jet should be #180/185. You'll have to do a bit of trial and error to dial it in.

Good luck.

Cheers!

You need to change the main one size larger to start. see what the plugs look like after wot. Then you have to play with the slow jet. if you play with the needle it will change the power curve. I would leave it alone till last. Here is a link that may help.

I am glad I have fuel injected

and yes not all jets are the same quality. Stick with Harley or the carb mfg if possible

Default RE: Carb Question

I added 2 #4 washers under the top of the jet needle, drilled out the air/fuel mixture plug and turned it all the way in and back out three turns. I then cleaned out the carb from top to bottom with carb cleaner and then added some new plugs. My bike has never ridden so good. It has great throttle response and absolutely no more carb farts. I only had to run the enricher about 60 secs to warm up before the ride. I must have been riding very lean before. I was almost to the point of dropping it off at the dealer, but thanks to this forum it only cost me about 59 cents to tune it up. Im hyped up and ready to ride now!
