Default Hyper chargers

Can anyone tell me the reliablitiy of using a Kuryakyn Hypercharger. I understand they will add up to 12% horsepower, however, do they hold up and how difficult is itto tune the motor after installation?

Don't know how the flaps at the front work long term. Have seen a few that seem locked open all the time.
Looked at the new hyper charger which will fit EFI bikes. Had info about plumbing and fitting and I decided against as looked like to many things to go wrong. I just wanted to suck air and not think about it again. They look good though.

I read in a magazine that they actually hurt HP.

Plus, they're ugly. They remind me of a hoodscoop from an 80's wanna-be pro-street car. But hey, if you want one, be sure to get the matching colored insert. It'll set your bike off! <--I was kidding.

You won't get a12% increase in power, that's BS. Sorry
It won't be any more power than any other free flowing filter.

I too have heard that it hurts horse power, but I can't see how it could.

Every one I've seen that has been on a bike a while, has the flaps locked open.

I have the Pro Charger on my Deuce. I will have to say the 12% increase is BS. The thing that the picturesdoesn't show you is that the bottom of the unit is open (were it sucks most of the air from). This negates any potential positive pressure build up. The flap mechanism is hooked up to the intake vacuum and remains open when not running.

Additionally the hyperchargers stick out further than the stock filter by an inch or two so you have to "reach" around to get your foot on the break. I am used to it now, but given what I know now I would probably not buy one.

my .02

I heard they are just for looks. If you like the look, go for it.

Had one on my last carbed bike and the dyno showed it picked up about 6 HP...every bike is different, and so are the guys tuning them...I've heard questions too, about the effect of rain on them, and I rode that bike thru some torrential downpours with no adverse affecton the breather...if you want one, try it out...
