Default Still need more advice

I have V&H Short Shot staggered pipes and a Thundermax w/AT module to install on my 2007 Softail Standard. What I am missing is the Stage 1 Air Filter kit. I know I can buy it and have it all installed at my local HD store, but they say it will take 4 hours to install all this plus the cost of the Stage 1 kit which is just the air filter. They charge $89 an hour for labor. I am wondering if the Stage 1 kit is really necessary or would it be better to just buy a K&N Air Filter, install eveything myself, and create the mapping with the Thundermax software provided?

For stage 1 you need a high flow air cleaner not a regular air cleaner. You can't just swap out the filter with a K&N. You can easily install a high flow air cleaner in about 30 minutes and then drive it to the dealership and letthem put the pipes on and install the thundermax and mapping.

if you are mechanically minded.... even just average, you can do the installation yourself.

I had slip-ons & drag pipes,PCIII and a HD Screaming Eagle air cleaner installed on my bike - total labor was $150 - by a local independent mechanic. it took him about 3 hours to do it all. I knew I could handle it, but for $150, it was a no-brainer for me.

good luck.

i agree with aviator. save yourself the 4 hours of labor and do it yourself. stage 1 is about the easiest do it yourself work you can do. At minimum the high flor air cleaneris a piece of cake.

Its not that hard to do, I did the same thing on mine, just different pipes and AC.
If you can't find a decent map for the TMax just go to their web site and fill in the help form.
They will get back to you with a recomendation, and they are usually fairly quick about it.

Stupid me I misspelled my own e-mail address when i asked a question, but they justcalled me with the info I needed.

Don't go back to the dealer! You've already given them enough money when you bought the bike. If you're not comfortable doing the install yourself, there HAS to be somebody there that can. **** $89 a hour!
