In 2003 i went down a got a brand new 883 sportster hugger, and sold it with 700 miles on it last dec and got a 2003 Softail Heritage Classic Silver/Black And It Was Like Night And Day The Two Bikes, So You Know The Sportster Beat Me To Death It Was Real Crap, But The 03 Heritage Is One Sweet Ride And Handles So Much Better The The Sporty ,,It Took Me All Of About 5 Days To Get Used To It, I Will Not Ever Own Anything But A Large Bike, The Heritage Is The Bike For Me, The Sportster Was Like Working When Rideing it ,, So I Never Rode It, But This Heritage I Ride Every Day And Love It More As Time Goes By

Thanks guys for the replies! Wasn't sure how that question would go over! The only "softail" I've ever owned was my Suzuki about 5 years ago and I never noticed any thing goofy about the ride. Sounds like it's just a Hatfield/Mcoy type thing, the whole "my bike is better than yours" type thing. If anybody else has any opinions about it, I'd love to hear em'. Thanks again...

I had (past tense) a '95 Ultra and went to a '07 Softtail Custom. Its like night and day, no comparison.

Now what does this idiot mean? I mean the Ultra was nice but heavy to pick up, heavy to lean, heavy to handle, heavy, heavy heavy......

The '07 Custom is like riding a bicycle in comparison. I brought all the joy back to riding that I had forgotten. My only complaint is that the Custom and the 96B motor vibrate above midrange RPMs. I love the bike and the ride, hate the damn motor.

I can't complain about the two Softtails we own as far as the ride goes!

I've got a '99 'lil sporty and my new FXSTC. The ride difference-uh, well you know. Funny how some that've posted say that the Dyna rides smoother. I went in to buy a Wide Glide and when talking to the professional salesman, he pointed out the Custom. Almost the same look, sit and weight, but said that the "soft"tail would ride much smoother. So, I bought it. I've ridden a W/G months before my new bike, only for a few miles and liked it. The cockpit of the new W/G was very different in fitment to me. W/G has more leg room/less arm reach. FXSTC had the opposite effect. I probably would have been happy with either bike.

I think my fatty handles great, nice and stable until the floorboards hit the ground. Also with the FL front end Ithink I have an advantage over models with the more raked out wide glide style front end, I think the fat front and rear tires help alot too. JMHO

Each bike has its own strenghts and weaknesses.

That was an outstanding responce. I agree completly. I have had a lot of sporty and dyna's. The 07fxst is the best ST yet, In my opinion. I hadn't ridden a dyna frame in a few months, and jumped on my friends dyna that was nicly done and wholly crap. Handeling doesn't mean too much until ya get the front tire back on the pavement. But it did seem..."tall" even though the seat height was very close, but after getting used to my st, it was up there. I can slalom my st hands free, and feel ok, getting sparks. The Dyna, just didn't feel as "balanced". It will get it down to the pegs, but but didn't recover as easliy. I can get the Dyna over more, but use all of my tire on the st. I believe this is as you said due to the location of the pivot point on the swing arm. The ST has more metal below the pivot giving it a lower center of balance. And again as you said, it more about your own dna and what you are looking for in your ride. If all I had was a Dyna, I would still be a happy camper. I prefer cruising. Shoot If I could mount a recliner, and still do 105, I would be cool. lol Yes, this was a lot of worthless input. You guys have a great day!!!
