wrong cleaner on winshield
I messed up my new 2006 HD deluxe winshield by using the wrong cleaner on her,I tried the scratch remover harlely sells but no luck,it has swirls in it.I want to buy a replacement winshield and found a couple places like cee baileys and rifle.
Neither had stock you have to add inches here & there.
I want the exact one that I bought from harley davidson,I looked under hd parts but only seen the complete set with hardware.
Overall height 26.3"; height/width 23.1" is what I need.
If anyone knows where I can find one I would appreciate it.
THANKS
MATT D.

Take it to the local plastic shop and have them cut you a new one. Make sure they us GE Lexan MR10. That is polycarbonate with a hardcoating. Make sure they use the correct thickness. I bleieve it is 1/8" or .125 thick.
They will unbolt it from the frame make a new piece an install it. It will save you money.

Go get some Mequiers PlastX. It's the stuff they use for foggy head lights.
You can either elbow grease your self to death or apply with a buffer at a VERY SLOW speed.
Take your time. Post back and let us know how it turned out.
I went on a toy run last X-Mas and they stuck a sticker on the shield. Well between the sun and the glue it screwed it up bad. Then I tried to get it off and that did it.
I tried the Mequiers as a last resort and was absolutly amazed.
Have recommended it since and nothing but rave reviews

I used RainX on a couple of windshields and screwed them both up. I tried the Harley cleaner/polisher to no avail. Now all I had was swirls.
My son has a car buffer so we bought a new pad and got some polisher for clear coat paint. That did the trick. It took out the swirls and not to say its perfect because it isn't but we did get about 95% of the swirl and original damage out of the windshield.
I don't know if but what a glass replacement place such as Harmon glass might have a buffing method that is superior to what we did but it can't hurt to make a few calls. I'd try it before I coughed up 350-400 for a new shield.
Good Luck.
