About 1-2 times a week, I get a noise at parking lot speed on my 06 night trainthat sounds like it's coming from the back. It comes & goes so I assume it is rotational. It's really irritating but I know if I take it to my local guy it won't make the noise for him. Thats just the way these things work. Any ideas? - Thanks
What kind of noise is it? If its a kind of a scraping sound it may just be the brake pads dragging on the rotor. Not much you can do about it without pulling out the brake pads and sanding them down a little to knock off the glaze or replace them withsomething like Lyndel Racing Pads.
My buddy was riding behind me the other day and said he could really hear my tire scrubbing when turning at low speeds. Don't know if that's what you're talking about.
I caught some monster flying insect (not uncommon here in Florida)that got trapped on top of my rear brake pads. Made a goofy noise for a couple of days as his carcus rubbed against the rotor. On wash day I spotted the relic and quickly determined that this was my noise. I ONLY heard it backing into my garage with the engine off.
I'm not saying you should check for bug debris, but I am saying it doesn't take much to create weird sounds. A cupped tire sounds different than a new tire, old brakes vs. new brakes, etc.
Agree with Citoripluson the brakes/rotor thing. My Sporty does that on the front but I only hear it at very low speed. No problems at all on the Softail.
It's only a slight rub and as soon as I give a little brake, it stops until I release. Ya might try that to see if the noise goes away then comes back.
I had a noise and it was the plastic belt guard rubbing the sprocket. The dealer worked on the tire and put the guard on wrong. it is to be frame, plastic guard and then chrome guard. I could only hear it slowing down and only once in a while.
