sorry guys but it could just be a bad tank petcock or even dust in the tank blocking the normal flow of the fuel.
I would first start from there then on to the hoses and then to the carb

Loosen the gas cap when it dies, if the is a vacuum in the tank you will hear it. I fought this problem on my '86 FXR until I figured out it was a bad gas cap. Replaced the cap, no more problem.

Lets start here , I am Assuming that you still have the stock fuel petcock on you bike if so, then has others have stated you will want to check the vacumn lines to the valve

If you have or had them install an after market fuel valve then you need to ensure the vacumn port is properly capped off on your bike, on the back side of the carb,

Then you will want to check the vent lines , do you still have all the emmissions stuff installed ??

If you like, I live in stockton, ca & can check this for you

Thanks to all who gave me suggestions. There's a great wealth of knowledge on here. As of now I haven't identified the issue.

wallyn& bdejong11129: I agree with the float idea. I wouldn't think the stealer would mess with the float when rejetting... would they?Catfish57: I checked all the connectors I could find and found none loose. I don't loose power at all even my tach keeps working when the bike dies.Asphalt Cowboy: I checked the plug gap and it's good and I have new plugs in the bike. I also checked the air cleaner and it's new too. Stealer put a new one in @ the 20 K service.SoALposer: When the tank was emptied I checked the cross over and it's not kinked or plugged.roofer: Good suggestion. I checked and both ends are connected. I still have to pull the hose off and make sure there isn't any cracks.zimman20; Another great suggestion. I checked this out and it didn't seem to unscrew hard. I have the Kuryaken fuel cap so I use the tool to get it off so that could be masking the difficulty in unscrewing it.
tlb: Looked at the fuel lines and can see no cracks. I guess the best way to check this is to replace it.whylee& Mr.Twisterman; No hissing sound that I could hear when removing the gas cap. Is there a vent I can check for blockage? Is there a wayI can check the gas cap vent?esyrdgcwby: Yes I still have the stock petcock. Can't see anything wrong with the vacuum hose that opens the petcock. Unfortunately I don't have a vacuum gauge to check it. Yes I'm in Stockton. Over by the (former) Pollardville. Thanks for the offer of help. I may just take you up on that if I can't figure this out.I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a coil making these types of symptoms? The reason I ask is that when the bike dies it doesn't seem to just bog down and die like it would typically do when I need to switch to reserve. It sputters and coughs. When I'm trying to restart it, it pops and coughs until it restarts almost like it's misfiring. If that isn't a possibility I would have to think it is something the stealer did when I had it in there since this has never been an issue until they worked on it.Thanks to all who gave me input on this issue. If you think of anything else I all ears.

Well... I took the bike to the stealer for them to see if they could figure out what was happening. They spent about 1/2 hour driving the bike up and down the freewayand couldn't get the bike to quit. I picked up the bike and put on about 40 miles driving back and forth down the freeway infront of thier shop and the bike never quit. Then drove another 20 miles home with no issues. I'm not getting what's going on here. Wednesday I couldn't get a mile at freeway speeds without dying.I guess I'll just keep ridding and see what happens. If you see me on the side of the freeway give me a wave as you pass...

Sound like a fuel tank vent problem. I just had an airplane do this on me. Run the plane for a couple of minutes, runs fine get it to the end of the runway for takeoff and at full power it runs out of fuel pressure, bang and pop. Blew the fuel vent lines out. Problem fixed. How is the fuel tank vented ? Next time try and loosen the fuel cap and see what happens. Mud wasp like to make their homes in vents. Good luck, Be Safe.

My Deluxe did the same thing. It was the crank position sensor.

You didn't mention the temp and humidity on the days it did it sooner, hot humid days cause it more than cool dry days? Sounds like vapor lock on the old ford trucks, check the vent hole in your fuel cap. and when it dies loosen the filler cap see if this makes it easier to start

Check the date of this thread, Harleydog.... it's 4 years old. He probably figured it out by now.
