Default Installing detach sideplates

I bought a used sissy bar for my 04 Fatboy with detachable sideplates here in the classifieds, with the docking kit. The instructions for the docking kit are for using with saddle bags, I'm not using bags. When I screw the new bolt into the strut it protrudes about 1/8", I don't think this will hit the tire but it's pretty tight fender to wheel. Anyone with this kit installed have the bolt past the fender?

Also have to get the turn signal relocation kit, who has done this? what's the difficulty level?Dealer wants $100 to put it on.

not hard to put on just use loctite blue and have the right size tools. The bolts are longer for those who use detachable bags as the have another part that goes on it. You can get shorter bolts or make some cool looking ones that are posted on this forum from parts at the hardware store. I have seen 2 relocation kits. HD for about $35 and another that has lay-down plate.
