I struggled between the Heriatage Classic and the Deluxe for 4 months before deciding on the Heritage. It was already loaded with the things I needed. The two-tone paint scheme is an additional $585.00 but worth the money for the look. If you are really serious about custom paint maybe a standard black paint job would be best. I get nervious thinking about sanding off $600 dollars worth of blue and white! I would save some money up front. JMO

Enjoy what ever you choose.

The dealership by me will refund your rental fee if you buy a bike from them. That's awesome that they let you test ride them. Most around here won't.

Good luck with whatever you choose, but if you already want the bags and windshield then it sounds like the Heritage would be more logical. Unless it's too uncomfortable.

I had the same struggles between the Heritage Classic and the Road King Classic. I really like the look of the Road King Classic, but was told that the Softail suited me better. I'm only 5'9" and was told I would probably drop the Road King Classic. I liked the fact that you could lock the bags on the regular Road King, but really like the looks of the RKC. The HC had everything on it already, plus it had the balanced motor. There were just a few things that kept me from the HC, I couldn't get past all the studs, they're just not me. And, the soft leather bags as opposed to the hard leather like the RKC.

Then I saw a Deluxe at a dealership with bags on it, it had the white walls and a classic look. I knew I would have to add the windsheild, siisy bar, bags, and woulod cost me a few more $$. But I had all of the looks and features I wanted. I could get a removable sissy bar, and hard leather bags that lock. I've almost got it where I want, next purchase are the bags.

Mike-

Nice looking bike!! I see from your signature block that you have a V & H FuelPak. I have an '05 Deluxe with StraightShots and am looking to add the FuelPak. Is your's all it's cracked up to be?? Many thanks.

Chris,

The Fuelpak was a very easy, straightforward install. It took only about 20 minutes. If you have the dealer download, I think you have to take your bike back and have it removed. I put the pipes and Fuepak on the bike one Saturday morning, I could really feel the difference in performance. I don't know how this performance compares to the SERT or the PCIII. It's a lot more fun now and the sound is awesome.

I know HD sells a Tall Boy seat for the Deluxe (p/n 52852-05). It raises you up 2 inches and back 1.75 inches. That might help.

I have the opposite problem. I'm only 5'3". I currently have a 883 Custom and am about to to buy the Deluxe and I'm really excited. I also considered the Heritage Classic because you do get the bigger bags and windshield. However, by the time I lower the HC, buy a reach seat, change the handlebar to a pull back one and get new cables I'll be spending about the same overall. Therefore, I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Deluxe. I've read a lot of really great posts about the Deluxe -- and that helped me make up my mind.

I cruse between 80 and 90 on my 07 all the time. I have to say that there is absolutely no vibration at all. The counter balanced 96 is an awesome engine.

In July of 05 I had the same questions as you. I'm 5'8" also, with a 30" inseam. Loved the look of the deluxe. I did a one day rental and the dealer let me swap out the bike half way thru so I got to compare both bikes. Chose the Heritage Classic and havent looked back.
