Default Installing kuryakyn innerprimary cover?

I received the innerprimary cover and looking at the instructions it says to remove the 4 bolts then eventually tighten the bolts 17-20lb torque.I dont have such a tool that would measure 17-20 lb torque.Do i really need one, i just have normal tools.Any suggestions could use the help.I dont know anything about motorcycle mechanic work.thanks

Sooner or later you will need a torque wrench, as it's important to get the bolts tightened enough and evenly (evenly is sometimes more important).

Experience with a wrench will eventually give you a good feel for German Torque. That is, Guten Tite.

I would see how tight they are when you remove them and then just do your best to get them back to the same tightness. The only reason they say 17-20 lbs of torque is so the gasket seals and as long as you don't HULK out on it you really shouldn't hurt the gasket. I would go for it on something like what you are doing although I would pick up a good torque wrench at some point if you plan to wrench on your own bike much.

Just my opinion!!

Get the torque wrench!! Craftsman or SK both make a usable 50-250 incher for around 100 bucks or less. I have the SK. I get by with a couple beam style for the higher foot/lbs. If you do mess up and strip a bolt hole you will wish you did!! That said if this is all you are ever going to do your self you probably will get away with it but even if all you ever do is change your own fluids a touque wrench is the way to go.

Like JLOCKHART29 said !!! You may want to consider a foot pound and an inch pound wrench. Some of the smaller bolts/screws require an inch pound adjustment. One foot pound is equal to twelve inch pounds. Example: A screw requires 100-110 inch pound torque. That translates into 8.3-9.17 foot pounds. Not all foot pound torque wrenches go that low, or at least that accurate. Stripped out threads and leaking gaskets is something no one wants.

Also, two other words: SHOP MANUAL !!!
