Default Seat and Battery Question

Hi guys,

I apologies now for what is going to be an obvious question to 100% of you.

I'm coming to the States in August and will be hiring a Softail Classic for a month long tour. I havea tour bag which a fixes to a seat and means the straps stay under the seat and the bag clips and unclips to it. Because of this I need to know how to remove the passenger seat. I won't have a toolbox of spanners so was hoping someone can tell me the one tool I need for the job and how the seat is removed.

I also want to wire a power socket onto the battery to keep my phone charged on the move. Where and how do I access the battery?

Again I'm sorry but...[X(]

The battery will be under the seat, which you will see when you get it off. As far as which one tool you need, why don't you just buy a little tool kit with allen wrenches, torx heads, screw driver, misc. size wrenches to take with you on the trip. If you are going to be out fora month, you are bound to need more than one tool. You can pick them up pretty cheap.

Thanks, thats a good idea. I will get the kit before I set off for the States. I just need to ensure that within the kit I buy there will be that one tool that will do the seat. If your able could you just let me know what that tool is?

Thanks

DD

The passenger seat is a attached with one large (~1 cm diameter head)slottted screw. (those with just one grove all the way across the head that passes through the center of the screw head). On mine, I always only tighten it by hand - no tools. On a rental, You should get them to remove it the first time, then you can tighten it by hand for the tour. I have over 10,000km on my 08 Heritage Classic, and it's always been tightentd only by hand.

Those screws often have a coin sized slot in them so its generally very easy to take it out with a dime or a quarter.

That's right. You can remove the rear seat screw with just a penny as a tool. You have nothing to stress about there. You may not be able to remove the passanger seat without removing the driver seat though. For my Mustang seat, I had to buy a large attachment for my socket wrench to fit that bolt (D) in the link. I'm not sure the size, maybe a 5/16?

A month long tour! How awesome.. Will you be making your way thru California? If so, let me know, so I can point you in the direction of a couple good biker bars in the area. Maybe I can meet up and buy you a beer or three..
