just got my 04 SE Deuce home nd put the first 100 miles on today...wow wish I had one sooner....anyway I have a few questions...first Im looking for a manual to do repairs etc...will a regular softail edition work? also what is the diff between a deuce and a softail(i know the deuce is a softail)....just curious...also will parts for a softail fit the deuce? ie seats. lights etc?
Contrats, hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine, great bike-sadly no longer made as of '07. For repairs pick up a service manual from your local dealer. Check out the H-D website which will tell you which models are Softails, which refers to the type of suspension they have. The shocks are hidden underneath the bike for a hardtail look. Most parts are not interchangeableamong the models.

Don't forget the parts manual, I don't have the number for it. But believe me its worth it.
Congratulations on a Deuce - I have to tell you, the 2004 was made available only to people who have IQ's above 130, and sexual fortitude of godlike capabilities, so you must be one of THE CHOSEN.
Generally, lots of stuff fits the Deuce, but get used to seeing (and I quote another list member) "Except FXSTD" in a great deal of aftermarket parts manuals. Some stuff gets frustrating, but there's lots out there for you to customize. I like the front end rake, and the clean struts, which are exemplifying characteristics of this bike.
I can't remember which softail manual to get - I bought the one with the softie on it with studded leather bags & windshield on it - black manual. It has served me well thus far.
The first time you change a tire, flip the axle the other way. That's all I have to say about that.
There's quite a few members here who have extensive Deuce jedi-knowledge, so you've come to the right place. I've always found it helpful, to say the least.
