what do you wear riding?
I had already finished riding and put the scooter in the garage. I was off the bike and trying to squeeze between the bike and the car... little to close to the bike!
Do yourself and the biker community a favor, don't dress up, it's not Halloween, and your clothes mean nothing to anyone around you. If your wearing a 3 pc suit, you'll get more respect than wearing all leathers and chaps to go 5 miles. Real Bikers know where you've been, and can see right through your BS. Be real to you, nobody likes a wanna be anything. Just my .02
I wore shorts and sneakers on the bike once to a cookout, stopped to get gas, and this guy gives me the bs look cause he's in leathers. I looked at him, looked at hisgear, looked athis bike, and told him straight out, "I got more time pumping gas in this tank, than you got sittin in that seat". He just knodded and smiled, cause he knew better.
HD ballistic or leather jacket-both with armor
HD hightop riding boots, with anchored laces to prevent looping onto the controls
full fingered Alpinestars racing gloves
blue jeans
no exceptions, every time........
So while riding in a thong may have been comfortable, you've all read about the heat issues with the 07's?? well, I'm here to tell ya, due to those very same heat issues and lack of proper protection what started out as sausage, ended up as crispy lil piece of bacon....if only I can re-hydrate the lil' fella....
Wearing gloves with good palms are your best bet to protect your hands. Think about falling, not just off a bike, but anytime, what's the first thing that hits,,,,usually your hands, and 1st point of contact is your palms.
Shoulders, elbows, head, And ouch, when riding at any speed, the second thing to hit is usually your face. All these open face skull caps look really cool, but if you like the way your face looks now, maybe you should try to protect it.
Now, all that sounds nice, but reality sets in, and you will probably do like the rest of us and wear what you do daily. jeans, t-shirt.
I'm lucky, I wear boots, jeans, and sometimes a leather jacket almosteveryday. Use good common sense pending your abilities.
However, I have laughed my rear end off. Met this guy at a friends party, we started talking about Harleys. Next day rode over to his hous, this boy had 4 Harleys in his garage. Oh back to the funny, it must have taken hime 30 minutes to get all his riding gear on. You know the type
1/2 helmet (it's the law) in warm weather, 3/4 in cold, none when I get away with it.
I wear mechanic's gloves when warm enough, otherwise leather.
Up top it is leather when it is cool enough to stand it, otherwise Joe Rocket armored mesh jacket - cooler than a t-shirt actually and has a nice inside pocket for a pocket holster.
Wear whatever makes you comfortable and who cares what anybody else thinks?
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
As for wearing shorts, I think it's stupid, but I ride with a few people who do just that. Wear what you want and are comfortable with. The only Harley riders who follow a dress code are the posers.
