Default Difference between 06 and 07 deluxe

I know the engine size changed from 88ci to 96ci between06 and 07 but were there any other changes that I need to be aware of in the softail line? I have found a smokin deal on an 06 model but I want to make sure before I pull the trigger.

Didn't they also get a 6th gear in '07?

It looks like they did add a 6th gear. How much differencedoes that make?I also just read something that said the 2006 was the last year without factory emmissions controls. What does that mean exactly?

The 07's have a six speed and a 96. Other than that, there's no difference. Unless you are an adrelin junkie, I'd get the '06 if it's that good a deal. There's nothing wrong with the 88.

When they went to the 96 inch motor they also went to a closed loop system and placed 2 O2 sensors on the pipes. They also added a 6th gear and that is really all the difference between the 06 and 07

06 has an open loop exhaust system. 07 has a closed loop system. That means that the system will have O2 sensors in the exhaust feeding info to the ECU for emission control. Most aftermarket exhausts have been redesigned to accept the sensors but some out there have not. So lets sum up the changes:

1) 07 has 96CI motor
2) 07 has 6 speed transmission
3) 07 has 02 sensors in the exhaust

Big changes but nothing that makes an 06 a bad bike. The only thing that I wish I had on my 05 is the 6 speed for the highway. But with the 5 speed I don't have to shift as often.

I have an 07 deluxe. The sixth gear to me means nothing. It lags under 55 - 60 miles per hour, so for me, unless I am speeding, I rarely use it. Some 06' were the last carbed bikes too. 07' they all became fuel injected.

Thanks for the responses! My last bike wasan 07 Nomad which has a 5 speed and I never wished I had another gear. It would cruise 80 all day and had plenty left. From what I have read the 6th gear isn't that much different than the 5th gear, they just put the other's a little closer together? The one i'm looking atis an 06 model with EFI and under 1000 miles with lots of bling. It's a smokin deal and I don't think I can turn it down.

Then go for it. Mine's the same. My husband has 6th on his Road King but only uses it on the interstate and does bitch about the lugging between 5th and 6th at times.
