I recently removed the Rear passenger seat and Luggage Rack that come stock on the Deluxe. I would still like to use a Luggage Rack from time to time but not deal with removing the plugs in the fender holes and instal the stock rack. I see Harley has Detachable Luggage Rack that uses special docking posts.
Anyone have any good or bad reasons not to go this route ??
You will hear nothing but positive about the removable backrests, saddlebags or just racks. They are terrific. I think just about everyone I know that has a newer bike has a detachable something. My vote is you will completely love them. Just take a trip to the dealer and make sure you get set up for exactly what you want/need. Hope this helps
I use the detachable back rest, detachable saddle bags and a better 2 up with the wife and take them off when she's not riding. They are great Love them really love them.
Thanks for the info. I'm also curious if anyone is using the optional lock that is available. It would really suck to come out from somewhere and see the Luggage Rack or Backrest gone.
At first I thought all the detachable stuff was cheesy, and I wasn't sure how it would look on my bike. But now that I have a detachable windshield and sissybar, it's awsome. You don't even notice the docking points, and now my scoot has like four different looks that make it look totally different.
No sissybar/windshield-favorite look
Only sissybar-second favorite
Only windshield-least favorite
sissybar and windshield-still looks ok, but sure nice for long hauls
Wife has a detachable tour pac on her Heritage and I ahve one on my EG Classic. They work great. We have the optional locks so the racks can't be stolen, and I would definately recommend investing in them. They are easy to install and use, and they provide a good degree of security for you quick detach. stuff.
I have noticed that a lot of the quick connect saddle bags say that the weight limit is like 10-15 lbs per bag. Is this the limit in general or just for detachables?
Love the detachables. Can change the look in a few seconds. I have the Easy brackets on bags and just keep shoving stuff in till it will not hold any more for 2 years and no problem. I think the wt. limit on bags is kind of like the bikes wt. limit, LIABALITY!!!
I have the detachable windshield, sissybar, and saddlebags. Just going thru the installation of the barebacks now. The docking points stick out a bit more with both the sissybar and bareback together but still it is minimal. I love the ability to be able to quickly change the look and style depending of the weather/passengers/ect.
