I have a chance to pick up a brand new set of the chrome profile low rear shocks for my fatboy for about $175.00, they are about $350.00 from the dealer. \\; I am looking to lower the rear of my bike, but am concerned with ride comfort and bottoming out when riding 2up, especially since I weigh about 230lbs. \\; I was considering the burnout cycles kit, but have been hesitant for the reasons mentioned above.
 \\;
Can anyone offer any insight or opinions?
How much are you gonna lower it? I've only got mine lowered 1" and I do some long rides. It's not bad. When the girlfriend rides it's lower with the both of us on but still not bad. She can't handle the long rides on my bike. \\;
Wifes bike is lowered, you definately lose some of your ride, but you can play with the hieght a little and hers is raised back up just a little, but it made a huge difference in ride. hers is also lowered front though. not a great ride when you ride 2 up, but we rarely do that as we both have our own. But that is a great price if thats what youd like to do.
WARG, I have the low profiles on my Heritage. Lowered one inch in the rear. I didn't notice much of a change in the ride at all. I need to adjust them a bit though as they are a bit stiff. I got mine from a dealer in New York off of ebay for 150.00.
My wife rides sometimes as well and I have never bottom'd out nor is the ride changed in any drastic way.
If you're looking to save $ get an Arlen Ness lowering kit for the stock shocks. You can lower it up to 2" and they usually run about $60 to $70. Just a little more work, but nothing a do-it-yourselfer can't handle. I did mine in about 2 hrs. \\;Hardest part is the rear bolts. I swear they're tightened up by \\;some pissed off American Gladiator probably named Ty-Rade or something. Works great - no bottoming but you'll remember you lowered it the first time you bend it into a turn.
I had those lowering shocks.....dropped the rear by about 1". Really liked them, but decided to add air ride. \\; Now they're sitting in the "spare parts bin" in my garage. \\;Warg- I'll make you a killer deal if you want them. \\; They have about 3k miles on them.
I've got a set of the Deluxe shocks on mine. \\; i have the preload set about middle ways and the 2-up ride is fine. \\; We have bottomed out a few times...2-up with a few days worth of gear on board. \\; Other wise, no issues.
