No, you will not fry your bike! Your only decision is how much money you want to spend and what level you want to join the "Stage One Club." I ride a stock 08 Street Glide in Atlanta and have not encountered a situation yet where I felt the heat was unbearable. But then I always ride in jeans also. If you simply want to reduce the heat at the lowest cost, the XIED's seem to be the way to go. If you want lower heat AND performance gains, you will have to research your Stage One options. No matter what you decide in these areas, I believe synthetic oil and an oil cooler will greatly help your engine. Again, pour yourself a tall beverage, do a search, and begin reading!

Good advice.
&nbsp\\;
I'm not sure about the can't hurt the bike statement, though... I suppose it will shut off before immediate damage, but I know last summer I had to let mine cool off a couple of times due to bad pinging and high temps on my digital oil cap (between 280-290) while riding in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. I'm swapping out my PC III with a Thundermax this weekend, and will monitor the changes. Also started researching oil coolers and will probably end up installing one, in spite of numerous posts indicating that they aren't needed, as I don't want to see temps above 250 again if I can help it. Hopefully I can keep it between 220-240, as it seems to be most happy in that range and is most comfortable to ride.

In the Army, the only dumb question was the one you were afraid to ask, so what is the XIED???

You can see it here:

http://www.nightrider.com/parts/

It modifies the O2 sensor signal and tricks the ECM into running the engine richer and this brings the exhaust temp down. Its really just wires, plugs, and resistors.

tunaman you are going to love the Thundermax!
Did you spring for the Autotune? if not it's worth the money...&nbsp\\;
when i installed mine it was like getting a new bike!
&nbsp\\;
On a stock bike the Xieds will help with the heat issue... but if you plan on doing any mods you should look at some type of fuel management...
I highly recommend the Thundermax with Autotune!

Yes I did... wouldn't have done it otherwise! Should be here tomorrow, so I might strip the PC III tonight and have it ready to go. I've read a lot of good things about them, and really see the value of the Autotune with the wideband O2 sensors now. Wish I had done that in the first place, but it was quite a bit more than the PC III and many are very happy with them.

Thanks!

Just went for probably my last ride with the PC III... got a call from a guy selling a Kendon dual trailer, so I rode about 70 miles (round trip) to check it out. Outside temps were low 70's, and watched the oil temps along the way. I rode freeway all the way, running mostly 75-80, no stop and go, and the oil temp got up to 224 degrees at peak. I'm really looking forward to getting the Thundermax installed tomorrow and seeing how it compares.

if i install the XiED thing... do i have to have any other adjustments made to the bike or its tuning (remapping, dyno tested, sensors checked, EFI adjusted, etc etc)? or is it a case of "install and roll"?

Install and roll.&nbsp\\; You just find the connectors for the O2 sensor wires, and plug the in the XIEDs.&nbsp\\;
