Definitely consult an attorney...a few years back a woman in an SUV t boned me at an intersection, totaled the bike and broke my leg...the cop failed to cite her, even with a witness in my defense...my insurance covered me on everything, but I got an attorney, and even after everyone else got their cut, I received 30K for punitive damages...if you're looking at possible, long term effects, you can't afford not to get legal consultation...good luck...
keep in mind that your medical expenses could be recouped by the goverrnment since your medical is by law a secondary provider any money recovered for "medical expenses" could \\;claimed. That might have influence on any "windfall" amounts. \\;
Thanks for the advise and well wishes everyone. Yes, the guy has insurance, so I'm not totally left hanging. I have an appointment with a reputable personal injury attourney on Wednesday.

Steve,
You don't know the cosequences of you injuries. Later in life \\;your shoulder \\;injury may severely limit your capabilities to use it. I'd like to see this person "hung out to dry." I see where cagers are not cited in a motorcycle/automobile accident way to many times. Maybe this will set some sort of examples to cagers and they will watch out for motorcyclists. \\; Get well quick bud and thank you for your service.
 \\;
Make sure you also see a chiropractor. \\; No I am not one, but had a great experience with one using the ProAdjust technique after I rolled my truck a couple of years ago. \\; \\;It really made a difference. \\; Make sure the insurance covers it first as this can cost around $3k for a maintenance plan.
 \\;
I broke my left shoulder several years ago in another rollover accident (I was not the driver). \\; I know the pain. \\; Best of luck. \\;
Hope you feel better soon. It takes a while to heal. Let the lawyer do your talking and don't accept anything real soon. See what the doctor says about your needed down time to allow your shoulder to be properly healed. Get that cagers license revoked before he hurts someone else.
Get a lawyer! \\; I was hit a few years ago (also 3 years from military retirement at the time). \\; I did not get a lawer at the time because I thought my injuries were not serious. \\; They really weren't. \\; I healed up and was pretty much back to normal in less than 6 months. \\; BUT, here I am 3 years later (about to retire) and going to physical therapy for neck and back issues. \\; \\;You don't know what you're going to feel like in the years to come!
 \\;
Hate to ask but were you wearing all that the Military requires of riders? \\; Don't know what service you're in but the Army is getting very strict with its' requirements. \\;
 \\;
Good Luck!
 \\;
Don
Glad to hear you're on the mend. \\; When I first read the subject of your post "Hit by cager-Now what?" my first reaction was, and still is, \\;HIT HIM BACK!!! \\; Not literally, but this dude needs to be taught a lesson. \\; Why wasn't he cited for a hit and run? \\; I agree with all that has been said so far. \\; Sue him for all you can and do what you can to get this idiot off the road. \\; We'll all ride a little easier. \\; As for your bike, his insurance should pay for that as well. \\; If the frame is straight and no cracks it'll be ok. \\; I'm proud of your biker mentallity: Ouch I'm hurt, HOLY CRAP, LOOK AT MY BIKE. \\; Continue to mend and hope your out with the wind in your face soon.
