Starter solenoid
The bike is an 88 heritage. \\; The primary has been changed to a 91 inner and outer. \\; The trans has a larger hole for the starter so it will take the newer integrated starter.
My "temp" fix that I am using is a wire running from the positive terminal that I will momentarily jump to the starter. \\; This spins the starter after that most of the time it will engage properly and turn the motor over. \\; I have used this "temp" fix for over a 3 years now. \\; I know some "temp" fix. \\; It appears to be totally random. \\; Hot/cold set for a week or try to restart after getting gas. \\; I never know when it the solenoid will go thud and nothing else. \\; I have been searching the threads for a few days now trying to find help on this. \\; There have been mention of the jackshaft and the ring gear, battery and cables….
I can honestly say its not the battery or cables. \\; I do wonder about alignment of the jackshaft and ring gear. \\; Is there any adjustment to those and how do I check?
Why fix it now? \\; The wife said I cant have three bikes in the garage. \\; I just ordered my Ultra Classic so my first baby has to leave home.
Troy, I'm a old dog, what the hell does bump mean?
Just "Bumping" it back onto the front page of the forum.
 \\;
Thanks for the bump
