My HD windshield is 18" tall measure from the headlight to the top, I sold it the other day, it came with the bike, not for me though.

 

Interesting… you think those chrome shields worked? I was thinking of trying them but checking to see if they fit a 08 fat boy, I already know the road king models do not fit. The dealer said they should but was incorrect. You have the same inseam as me so I may give these a try… I will say I don’t really like how they look but if it solves the problem of wind buffeting when I wear my full face helmet then I will definitely be sold. I don’t know what else to try…

 

i don't want to sound dumb... but what is head buffering... if it is what i think it is it is the wind turbulence that comes over top of the windshield hitting your head and face... if this correct...
i have a detachable windshield on my 98 fatboy i like the look but don't like the turbulence that it gives me.. it has actually shook my visor loose on my helmet and stripped one of my visor screws... i'm actually looking into the process of putting a batwing fairing on instead of the windshield...anybody have input with this...

most of the wind buffeting that you feel is coming up from under the windshield. it flows through the forks and around the gas tank and up your chest into your face and helmet. the head shaking sucks. put your arm across your chest while riding and feel the difference in your face and helmet area (like in the flap vest ad). i did put the deflectors on for this reason, as explained in the forum here. they do work surprisingly well. i can cruise at 70 without having my head all shook up.

 

I would go with the HD king size model. Then trim it down until it was just the right height.
You can put a piece of tape on it running vertically. Ride the bike a few times and use a pencil to mark on the tape where you need to trim down the w/s in order to have a clear line of sight over it.
When I had a w/s, on other bikes, I liked the height to be where I could duck down behind it for more protection, or sit up straight when I wanted to look over it.

I had a HD QD windshield that came with the bike, it is easy to remove, used it once, didn't like it and sold it.

 

Yeah the shaking sucks a lot! I did go out yesterday and tried this little wind blocking trick with my arm and it did help. I have some wind defectors ordered I guess we will see what they get here. Thanks

 

thanks for the information on the head buffeting... i have ridden so long without a windshield and never had this problem... now having one on my bigger bike i thought it was coming from over top not under and thru the forks...

May have found and answer to this windshield buffing problem. www.clearviewshields.com this company makes the plastic that is predrilled to fit you king sized brackets. They are backed up from the previous ridding season so delivery will be 5-7 weeks. Anyway I plan to give them a try. Called them and they were very nice and offered many suggestions to help resolve the problem.

To reiterate my issue was the wind coming over the top of the shield not the lower and this company puts a re-curve (slight) in the top 2 inches of the shield to push the air 1-2 inches higher then without, so in theory you could use the same sized wind shield while the air is pushed up higher (exactly what I need!)

Don’t get me wrong I love the wind in my face to but not while going 80 MPH for 4 hours on the interstate…

Price inst bad about 160.00 per shield depending on the bike model.

 

If you have passing lamps I got a King Size for sale for cheap with bag. It's a rigid(4 bolts) comes on and off in minutes.
