Default Powder coat?

I've heard instead of powder coating chrome, you can paint it with high temp black paint and bake it.&nbsp\\; It is supposedly scratch resistant.
&nbsp\\;
Does anyone know if this is true, and how much is the paint and how long and HI do you have to bake it?&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Thanks

Chrome is not a very good substrate for paint, high-temp or otherwise.&nbsp\\; I sandblasted the chrome off of my Pro Pipe and sprayed them with House of Kolor Hi-Temp Satin Black with excellent results.&nbsp\\; No baking was necessary although they do recommend preheating the metal before painting.&nbsp\\; I've had the pipes on for over a year and the finish still looks good.

Yes if the part is chrome, it needs to be acid washed and cleaned before the powder coat will settle in. You can powder coat an engine with high heat resistant paint (night trains). Gloss would just chip and break off.

&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\; When you say bake they don't really bake it either. IT's just the slang for how they positively and negatively charge the piece and the paint sinks into it beit at high temperature. Atleast that is what I have come to understand.

www.eastwood.com has some powder coat that can go over chrome! it is translucent and lets some of the shine come through, I have not tried it yet and do not know how durable it is

You can powder coat over chrome with any powder.&nbsp\\; You must hand sand or blast the chrome first to provide a good etch on the surface for adhesion purposes but otherwise it's no different than powder coating over bare metal.
