Default screamin' eagle ignition

hello all, I'm new to the forum.

I have a 2000 fxst with screamin eagle II exhaust, carb kit and and air cleaner.

I'm thinking of adding the screamin eagle ignition and coil kit to the bike and wondering if anyone has made this change and seen any improvements.

I see there are 2 different kits that both limit the rpm's to 6,200 one street legal the other one not. I'm planning on installing new cams but not untill the warranty runs out next spring.

thanks for any input.

The guy I deal with here say's the ignition kit is not needed on standard engines and the same through to 103cu engines. He has done hours of testing on dynos and says the standard set up is all you need if you want to maintain the same revs.

He has tried many differant types of ignition set ups but they all seem to end up back to the original timing for peak performance.

Hope this helps.....

Yep, I heard they were a waste of money as well. Let us know what you decide.

I guess I'm a little late on this one but I bought the race ignition not street ignition and I feel I noticed a little gain in the lower end. In the '60's we used to recurve the distributor with different weights on a fancy Sun machine which allowed the torque band to come in at a lower RPM than stock. ie: power started to come in at 1500 rpm rather than 2500 - 3000. I feel this is the same with the RACE ignition which revs to 6200. Never rev a 88B motor past 6200. Great idea to balance the twin cam in the Softail, mine is silky smooth, but not much of a high perf. engine. I believe the part number for the RACE ignition was something like 31710

I read in one forum where someone said that the ignition and coil really doesn't improve anything unless you are running the 103" or your compression is 10:1 or higher. As far as the cams go, I'm getting the SE stage II big bore kit installed on mine as I speak, which comes with the 203 cams and the Harley Parts book has it in writing, that if these parts parts are installed by an Authorized Harley dealer, that they do not void the limited warrenty. Not sure if I totally believe that, but they have it in writing.
