'08 5th gear
I have an 08 FLSTC, just about to hit 1000 miles. I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with 5th. When im in 5th I get a loud rattle, even the spedo on the tank sounds like its shaking. Go into 6, it goes away. I read in another thread that this is common, but it just does not sound right to me. Anyone out the with this same situation, or do I need to have this looked at?

yep, 5th gear sucks on the HD 6 spd trans. it whines esp in lower rpms. the only thing i hate about my ride. common complaint. dealer wont do a thing, have it looked at anyway. take off the ws you wont hear it anymore!

'08 Softail Custom and '08 Ultra Classic and both have the whine. \\; Not a problem with me and both run smooth as silk. \\; I ride primarily in 5th on the open road unless on the Interstate and doing 65mph or above.,

5th gear whines, no rattle. couldn't hurt to swing by and have a tech ride it. when i did my first service i used the standard
hd oil in all three boxes. am changing to synthetic here in a week or so. going with redline heavy shock proof for the trans.
