Has anyone ever put the 21" wheel and fender on a Fatboy? I'd like to try it. From what I can see from looking at the two bikes it'd be a simple swap out...wheel/tire and fender assemblies.
Be simple if you just put the front end of a Custom or Standard on front. But you might have to do a little bit of custom spacer fitting to get a stock sized wheel and rotor to align properly between those big fat FL fork tubes.
In the end I think it might be a lot easier and cheaper to put a Fatboy fender and Taillight on the back of a Custom.
I did a little detective work with my parts manual and it 'seems' that your eye's may be better calibrated than you think. All of the Softails use the same wheel spacers and one of two axles. The axles themselves 'appear' to be different only in the way they are made. One has a nut on both ends where the other has it on only one end. But otherwise they appear to be sized the same.
So as long as your getting the wheel from a bike with the same axle size, the axle diameter has grown larger over the years. You should be good to go.
Good Luck and be sure to post some pics if and when you get it done.
Thanks Citoriplus. My idea is to be able to switch back and forth depending on my mood. I've always like both the custom and fatty and maybe this is a way to have both
I'm not sure how its going to look with those big fat fork legs and a tall skinny tire.
Not sure its something I would like for my bike. But its not my bike and I would be lying if I said I'm not interested in see how it would look.
Maybe he's trying to have his cake and eat it too. I would cut him a little slack if I were you. Remember its his bike and if he wants to put a skinny wheel on it, more power to him.
Personally I have some reservations about the resulting look. But like I said its his bike. So I'll hold off on any final opinions until I see the finished product.
wow, yea, i would be interested in seeing this as well. I was sold on an FB until I saw my Custom, so like you, I would like to have a little of both, and maybe this is a way to do it.
I can't offer any sage advice, but would really like to see how it looks if you can make it work....
