I notice while on a ride tonight the speedo needle bouncing around a bit. Not much actually, just a mile or two over and under while cruising. Once I stopped for a drink and turned her back on it was fine. I noticed this on sunday as well.
the bike is a brand new 08 deluxe with 675 miles on her (got her last week)
On the Dyna there is a magnetic speed sensor on the top of the tranny. An allen screw holds it in.
If there is any metal dust on mine, the speedo goes weird.
so, I called the dealer and inquired about this.. Service guy's answer..."it's normal" "you are probably rolling on the throttle slightly". I explained that this happened at very steady speeds and he was clueless as to what it could be other than operator error.
so, i called my local indie who will be doing all of the work to my bike as they did to my sportster. He explained that sometimes metal shavings will get on top of that speed sensor in the tranny and cause it to act funky. He said it's nothing to be concerned about and happens from time to time.
And Harley wonders why i don't use their service department.
