yeah, I knew the price was high. thats why I suggested to him go to a dealer and look new...the accessories and mileage on this used one do not equal to the asking price
I have bought a few used Harleys along the way. It was said before, but I will say it again. If the used bike has almost everything done to it the new rider will do to it AND he will get a heck of deal on it you should buy the used bike. Otherwise, the feeling of buy a new bike is pretty darn cool.
It still amazes me people think since it is a Harley their bike must be worth a lot. Those days are LONG gone.
Seems high to me, I'd never pay that much for an 05 unless the motor had a recent 95" build on the top end. The early 05's had valve seal problems and went thru oil unless it was repaired. Get the 09 or a good deal on a new 08.
Harley's "2 year warrenty" is useless. I would look for a USED bike, and to narrow it down I would look SPECIFICALLY for a low miliage 2002 model year. That was the best built year for Harley bikes to date. A good low miliage 02' should run for no more than around 10k.
I gotta believe this is just Ahcmed's opinion... not backed by any facts, or not any I've ever read. (could be, though).
I'd still take a new bike warranty over a 7 yr old bike - unless I knew the bike and how it was taken care of. but - that's just my opinion.... and yeah, I know... it's like a'holes, we all have one.......
I have a friend that wants to buy a harley and I know someone that is selling a 05 fatboy with 11K on the clock for 15K. Now in my opinion I would just buy a new fatboy for that price...am I wrong for suggesting that he look at the new bikes for that price?
Thanks guys
I had the same decision to make in 04. A used Nightrain or a brand new 05. Well, between the high price of used Harleys and the fact that the new one has upgraded this and that over earlier models (even bigger difference now with the 96 and 6 speed) I had to go new. It's also nice to have a 2 year warranty. With that said, it has to be the buyer's decision in the end. Generally, if you push someone in a direction and they are not happy with the end result, you end up kinda being the bad guy....even though the decision was solely theirs.
That price does seem pretty high though.
Good luck
