If your brackets hit the pavement hard enough, your bike will reach a pivot point causing the rear tire to come off the ground. This means that what happens next will not be a good thing and will quite possibly leave a mark. On the positive side, you get to upgrade all the parts you smashed up.

before i wrecked my heritage (lol) scraping was part of owning one imho. you can feel when you get into the floorboard brackets. the rear end will get light start to lift. as others have said it is a warning, but you can take it a little further, not much.
