Default Chrome...chrome...chrome

Have an 06 Fatboy with just enough chrome to catch an eye or two. Now I'm concentrating on the engine, primary, trans. cam and some misc. bolts and screws. The rest of the bike is complete. My question is swapping the old and replace with chrome hardware or use Hottoppers ( chrome covers)? I've seen and heard great things about them Hottoppers but I'm worrying about breaking the original seals on all of them bolts and screws and leaks later on down the road if I choose to replace them. Any advice out there would be appreciated.

Nothing wrong with hottoppers but bolts look better in IMHO.

I have done it both ways. I doubt you would have any leaks develope. I personally like the Hot Topper route myself.

I have hot toppers on my 2005 SE Fat Boy. Think it really finishes off the look. A while back I saw another 2005 SE Fat Boy at the dealership service dept. The other bike looked good, until I got close and every nut and bolt on it had that white corrosive look.

I've done it both ways and personally prefer the hot toppers for longterm looks. Chrome bolts look good initially but after a period of time (depending on riding and storage habits) they've gotten ugly.

I like the look of the Hot Toppers. If you need to get at anything they easily pop right off.

If you decide to go that route, don't pay retail. You can get a complete set for your bike pretty cheep on Ebay.

I've been considering doing the hottopers too. I thought about doing gloss black ones on my bike. They would definately be eaiser than replacing bolts.

i started with some chrome fender strut bolts, after bout a month they rusted, so i now have a polished bolt/hottopper mix...the hot toppers are on the motor/motor mounts

I've got both chrome bolts and Hot Toppers on my bike (Hot Toppers on the engine). The chrome bolts (rotor bolts, pulley bolts, fender strut bolts, etc) are nice, but if water gets in the allen head, it WILL rust (and look like ****). On the other hand, if you put the toppers on, you shouldn't have this issue, since they cover up the head of the bolt. Also, a package of Hot Toppers on e-Bay costs around $90 bucks for the "starter" kit (I belive that this kit will do the entire engine.....If you buy the HD chrome bolt set for your trans, primary, cam, tappet, and rocker box covers, you're going to spend about $200.
