Mikuni 48mm carb setup and a large NO NONSENSE high flowing K&N air filter assembly. Even the exhaust is questionable, hooker is not known as a hi performance exhaust for the Harley platform.

+1 on the exhaust and intake.

tpolstc -I have my softail and a Road king for riding duties, so I know that I have the right manufacturer, but thanks for the tip. Harleys can make ample power.

Back to more important things, the Force winder was on the bike when I bought and just never changed it. Cams are 585 S&S, I don't remember the flow numbers on the heads. It has been four years since having them ported. All in all I think an air cleaner and carb might be the answer. I haven't heard any bad things about my pipe before. Stepped header, ceramic coated 2-1. Thanks for the replys.

585 and 570 S&S cams are meant for low to midrange TORQUE. They are not HP cams. I consider them the "poor mans 6 series Woods cams" But you can still gain a few ponies by getting a good intake setup installed. Mikuni carbs are known as the best bang for the buck slide carbs. Easy to tune and dial in. http://www.bcheads.com sells the best intake K&N filter kit, and it uses your stock A/C cover assembly.

As for exhaust, Hooker is not a performance exhast. If you want performance, look to Bassani,Supertrapp, RB racing or Force performance.

Was it bored from an 88? Which one. if so? TC88A or B? The counterweights are gonna limit your redline anyway unless you want them shooting through the case. Check the settings on the dyno for elevation, temperature, etc. if they aren't setting it up right, it'll read low.

Well since he is posting in the softail section, I assume were talking about an 88B here. Regardless, knowing he has a decent low to midrange tq cam installed, I think where the area of improvement can be made is obvious.

A. He should get his hands on a Mikuni 48mm carb.

B. Get a hi8gh quality K&N A/C unit from a place like BC Gerolomy

C. Potentially change out the pipes(but this is the smallest concern)as well to a better performing unit.

I would be happy with the figures you have unless you are looking for more top speed. On the street Torque is where it is at. Your headers are made for better torque figures. Forget about the numbers and enjoy the ride! You say you are beating everybody anyway.

Fair enough, thanks for the replies. I will be investing in a new intake set-up and maybe a carb.

ya the carb should be changed out. a 44mm opening is a bit small for a 1550cc engine. Hell my XL 1250cc Sportster uses a 45mm Mikuni carb. That bike makes 124whp and 93 foot pounds of tq.

read the selections on the right side of the web page. You can see what others did and got.
