Default Getting bike back into neutral

Just got my first bike, it's a 1994 custom fatboy.
When the bike is put into gear ,I can't get it back into neutral unless I turn the bike off and it slips right back in without any problem.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

I would check to see if your clutch adjustment is correct, if it's not fully dis-engaging it will cause the trans input shaft to spin at a rate that won't allow you to shift into neutral. Turning off the engine of course stops this. It may just need a minor adjustment. Good luck!

I added the HD automatic primary chain tensioner, it helped finding neutral and it smoothed out the low speed crawling as well.

I know that too much fluid in the primary chaincase or not enough fluid can cause this.

Different generation bike but I know that my 01 1450/88cid Fatboy takes 26 oz. Just under a quart.

Did you add the HD automatic primary chain tensioner yourself?
And was it a hard job?

It's an easy install, but you do have to drain the primary so you can pull the main cover. For insurance against leaks, you should probably use a new main cover gasket. So far I've had good luck reusing the smaller gaskets. Though the front one gets a little fuzzy after a few times on and off, it hasn't leaked yet. The "derby" gasket has a rubber bead on it and so is a bit more robust...
