I got a combo, it worked on an evo.
Cycle shack short turnout straight pipes, with anti-reversionary cones at the head port.
And stainless bolts 3/8 inches eight inches from the back, with a stack of washers covering up 85% of the bolt starting with small diameters increasing in size to a normal 3/8 washer to go with the taper of the pipe.
This thing sounded so deep, not loud but deep, it scared people.
It rumbled so low it shook windows, kind of like the kids with the bass boxes in their cars.
Everywhere I went with this I got a comment on how deep it sounded, even at rallies with many bikes running it still turned heads, and the plugs burned perfect, people thought I had a cam in it but it was stock except for jetting

Some of this was luck but most credit must be given to my friend who is a engineer both in sound actuation & pump flow.
I would not of tried it if the pipes were more than $70. I hate being the test bunny.

But your right a shovel is still a shovel & I miss them.
I would like to try it on my 08 but I don’t know enough about the efi yet, and I get a lot of shat when I keep sayin “I wish this had a carb”

Try quiet baffles in your longshots, I believe they give you the deepest sound.

I sometimes miss the days at a ride or a rally when all the evos and TC's are running and you kick that shovel off and EVERYONE turns to see what the h*ll just happened....of course I don't miss the days when the train pulls off and your still kicking trying to get that b*st*rd to bust off....

I have the factory pipes on my 05 with drag baffles cut in half (for back pressure) and a set of hollow Samson fishtail mufflers. Nice low rumble at idle and cruising, will still holler when you twist it. It aint no shovel, but it starts every time I mash that little button, no slow kick, throttle, fast kick ritual to go through...

Not a big tecnician myself, but i believe some slipons give a nice deep rumble, like SEII and Rush for example.
And as i read every now and then on this forum, I'm afraid we will never be able to get a typical Harley sound with these TC engines, just to name one thing is the fact that their idle needs to be too high to get a typical (pre-TC) HD sound.
Personnaly, i'm not happy at all with Harley's TC sound, but of course, they're very reliable engines and that's probably more important than sound...

But oh yeah, I really miss that great sound...

Wish I knew the what a Shovelhead sounds like....not that I'm too young for that...just wasn't into it back then. I sure do like the way the S/E 110"s sound. They've got a very distinctive sound over the the standard 96"ers and 88"'s.

I know I am about to get flamed for this but here goes. The best sounding Harley I have owned to date is....(gulp)...my Sportster 883. I had a complete Cycle Shack exhaust on it and it sounded great. No, I am not making this up. They were only $200 or something like that and it sounded like a Harley should.

Great explanation! Sounds like poetry...
