If you are wanting to remove the rear wheel just once in awhile, I don't think it's that bad... assuming you are using a lift. I just lift it high enough to get a piece of 4x6 under it and then there is really no lifting involved.

roadglide is correct about the rear brake setup... it takes a little getting used to or it is a PITA.

When I was in Milwaukee, the new model tent rep told me the 09's have a chrome rear wheel...true?
I know later model years (2009, etc.) came with the chrome rim, but I think the axle, bearings, and frame are different than what's on a 2007. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

You are correct! I got both 2009 and 2007 parts book.

rear axle assembly has different part number.
2009: 41641-08
2007: 41110-89

Bearings are:
2009: 9276 (25 mm)
2007: 9267
(these 2 numbers are great for confusion!)

Frame is:
2009: 47008-08
2007: 47687-06A

So, even if you got all the correct 2009 parts, you can't swap a 2009 chrome rim in a 2007 bike due to the frame being different. Is this correct?
Thanks

Guess so, different spacers too!
Parts book does not tell you what fits and what not!
different numbers for wheels also.

Also you quoted before I fixed the bearing numbers! They are different after all!

The previous owner of my Softail Custom had installed chrome wheels front and back, the rear one is the HD slotted chrome, and the front is the HD 60 spoke chrome. For me the chrome is a lot easier to keep reasonably clean.

What year is your bike? Did it originally come with an aluminum slotted rim?
Thanks

I have the '08 Night Train with the solid Alcoa aluminum disc wheel. I love the look of it, but DAMN, is it a pain to keep clean. When I do, however, NOTHING works as good as White Diamond Metals Polish and Sealent. Amazing stuff. Just wish I could get my big mitts into some of the tighter places near the axle...
