I was going to say the same about the wheel moving. Also, deluxe sits lower. Fatboy has a mena street cruiser look, and deluxe has a nostalgic look. Check out how I made my fatboy nostalgic. Plenty of options out there, but I agree you should get what you want. Solid wheels make no difference. Total BS...
Before I bought my Deluxe, I rode both of them. There is definitely a difference in the bikes. The FB has a larger rear tire/wheel, sits higher, seat has a "wider" feel to it, different wheels, different front fender, and different handlebars. But honestly the biggest reason I chose the Deluxe was that I'm vertically challenged and I felt more confident on it.
I'd suggest that if there is ANY question in your mind and you're not perfectly decided, that you spend a little more time sitting on each and also riding them if possible.
Or you could split the difference get a Heritage Softail Classic. I bought mine last month. It's a 1995 model in perfect condition. I paid $8000 for it with only 19,551 miles. There are good deals to be had on used bikes right now, so that may be something for you to consider. Here's my bike:
I can also agree that the wheels make no difference while moving. The only time I feel them is when I'm sitting at a light and a big gust of wind hits, or truck blows by. Still a non issue. It isn't like I felt like I was going to tip over. It is vey niticeable though.

it makes me wonder why we never hear of Fat Bob, 'Glide or Road King riders complain. do you really think that those small openings in their wheels makes any difference? espeically, when the touring bikes have bags that cover most of the rear wheels....... just saying....
I own a Deluxe and have rented a FB (put about 700 miles on it). In my case, the Deluxe was more comfortable and had the look that I wanted. Ride what you want. There is nothing wrong with the FB if that speaks to you.
