Never tried Avon's. Metzlers are nice but wear out more quickly than dunlops. They do stick to the road like glue. You can't make a bad choice in this situation.

I've got the Avon Venoms and won't buy them again. The sidewalls are all cracked up like they've been sitting in the sun for years and I don't really care for the ride with them.

I will never buy another set of Avons and my reason why is...Myrtle Beach 2007, I buy a set of custom wheels with Avons mounted on them. The rear has a Avon AV32 and the front has a venom, both brand new, purchased from fatbaggers. I ride the bike home and only got to ride it to work and back which was 20 miles each way. August rolls around and I have only put 2000-2300 miles on the tires and I notice cord showing on the back tire...I was like WTF? I was the only person who rode the bike and it was always with me so nobody else rode it. I called up Fatbaggers and they said they only sale the tires and have no warrenty but they would look at it if I sent it back. I send it back and I did, they said it looked weird, the chicken strip was purplish black looking like a heat issue so they call Avon and was told to send it to them. So 2 months go by and I never hear anything so I call Fatbaggers and they say, yeah Avon said the tire had been doing burn outs and that caused the premature wear. As long as I have owned my street glide I have never to this day have done a burn out with it. I replaced it with a Avon Venom to match the front and it wore out at 3k miles and I replaced it with a Metzler ME880 and while I am on my second one, I put 11k miles on the first Metzler before it needed to be replaced and a lot of those 11k miles were two up with a loaded down tour pak. Avon can kiss my azz.

The Metz are way better than the Dunlops for grip by a long way, we are talking about ME880's?
I get 8000 out of them easy and I ride really hard.
Keep a good eye on tyre pressures regularly.
One thing that Metz will do is get slippery towards the end of their life, a bit sooner than harder compound tyres, they still have plenty of grip but on high speed runs they will slip around you will have to allow for that, and they will run long after that with grip.

Metzler 880's in stock sizes are your best bet, however if you want other than stock sizes Avon produces more choices. I have run both tires on various bikes and have found both to be good all around tires. My TCW

Avon. I have over 6000 miles on mine and they are still in great shape.
