Default Break-in question / new used bike

I just picked up a 2007 Deluxe that has 190 miles on it. The person who bought it rode it twice and it scared the hell out of them. So they parked it for two years. What would be a proper break-in period and is there anything special that I need to do?

first 500 miles go 55 mph no more. next from 500 to 700 go no more then 70 but very the speed up and down , from 700 to 1000 go no higher then 80. then do 1000 mile oil change and all the other stuff in the hand book.

I would do an immediate oil change and another at 500, just like the dealer/MOCO recommend.

Break it in just as if it just left the showroom. Easy until you hit 500 miles. Then ride it like you stole it.

Drain the gas and oil, then treat it like a new bike. Check tire pressure and look for any fluid leaks...should be OK for such a recent model. Driving at varying speeds and not pushing it for the first 500 miles is just good sense. Keep an ear tuned for any unusual sounds.

Thank you for the solid advice. I'll change the oil tomorrow and make sure to follow the guidelines for breaking it in.

Personally I feel that if you baby it during break in you'll have a mellow motor and visa versa. Here's a VERY interesting take:
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

By the way, I broke my XL1200C in HARD (I didn't BEAT IT!) and after break in it had incredible power and used vitually NO OIL over the next 4K miles, at which time I traded for a leftover '08 Anniversary FXDL which I am Breaking in the SAME EXACT WAY...
...and it's running great after 200 miles and counting.

Lots of theories on this...but the wrenches and builders I know and trust all tell me the same thing...ride it normal from the get go...don't baby it, don't beat on it...lots of bikes and lots of miles later, it's still workin' for me, no problems...

"ride it normal from the get go...don't baby it, don't beat on it..." No lugging or over revving! Two worse things for it until break in period.
