I have a 09 Heritage Softail Classic with 1,800 miles on it. My question is about the heat management system that keeps kicking in. Now keep in mind I am in Michigan which is pretty cool this time of year and every time it gets in the 60s and I am at a stop light for a couple minutes the rear cylinder shuts down. If it is doing it now what the hell is going to happen in the summer? Is anyone else having this issue?
No. My 09 UC has never gone into heat management even when in Daytona in stop and go traffic. I did have the stage 1 download put in along with Rush mufflers and SE AC. I knew that stock was going to be lean and hot.
I have an '09 heritage and it goes into the hm mode often here in las vegas. I asked the dealer about and he said it is supposed to do that but if it was really bothering me he would disable it. So your dealer should know about it. Might be time to find a new dealer if he insists that you don't have a hm system.
I live in Nevada-northern part-and understand heat issues reasonably well. First of all I would check with a simple oil temp. guage and see if you really have heat issues or you have ecm problems. Does the engine actually become overheated or is it something from the ecm that only thinks it is hot?
An ecm (electronic control module--your ignition) is the easiest fix,if you have other problems--you certainly want to know before summer !
Please let us know which way you need to approach the problem. If it is not the ecm----well lets hope that is all it is, Although you have a warranty---you now know how competent the dealer can be for diagnosis !
Personally I think the whole idea is retarded with this heat management thing. Fry the front cyl to save the rear, DUH. At least they could have made it alternate between the two.
Ron
if you go to the dealer they can change your ECM to work in your particular environment.
where you picked up the bike did not make any adjustments to the ecm.
