I really like the spoked smoothies that came with this bike when I bought it used. But, if they did not come with this bike and if I could afford it, I would get the larger size rims - 18" or larger...
Go to www.hogpro.com and check out their galleries. I have bought from them on 2 seperate occasions and would again without a thought. They can get all the big manufacturers and they also have their own line, which are made for them by the likes of Weld Wheels, etc. They have good prices and can and will answer all your questions. They'll even mount and balance your choice of tire so when you get them you just open the box, which are more than strong enough, and throw 'em on the bike.
I've got 1 set of Renegade South Beach on a 07 Fatboy and love 'em. Buddy has a set of Forge-Tec ( not sure of the model wheels ) n his Fatboy and he's also very happy with them.
I have a '99 FLSTF, 50 spoke fat daddy's are on their way here... 18" rear and 21" front... I'm changing the fender but the is no real need to, you can raise it with a set of brackets (no more than 1" probably) and there you go you get to keep your OEM fender...
Mimo.
Ps: This is how they'd look with your current fender:
I too am looking at wheels for my next mod. I found the DNA Mammoth's 18X3.5 front and rear plus matching rotors and pulley and Metler M880 tires for just under $1500 shipped to my door from www.kcint.com. Still shopping around, but leaning towards those for my scooter too.
