Heritage Softail 1990 Newbie
Pls share your thought..is Heritage Softail 1990 doesn't as torquey as Softail Custom 1997? Is the vibration normal? What is the top speed of the heritage 1990?
Pls advise.
Thanks in advanced.

Vibration is normal thats what makes it a harley
Top speed for both 96mls
According to specs sheet the 1990 is about 1.6 secs behind the 1997 in acceleration from 0-100
Here look amazing what google does!!
1990 specs.. http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictur...tail-1990.html
1997 specs... http://motoprofi.com/motospecspictur...stom-1997.html
I would still do a compression test also better pipes and have the carby cleaned an tested
still not happy put a cam in??
I just drop off the SE Carb and put in a S&S Super carb and now the bike is running smooth and sound good...it seem like the earlier culprit is from the SE Carb and probably like what u guys comment, it is too big for my bike..
now things to look at are the performance parts like K&N filter and better muffler...but accessories in Malaysia is very expensive, have to do up slowly...
Many thanks for all your input and comments and I learn lots here..and will keep hanging around here to learn from all of you ..
cheers!
You are getting excellent responses from everyone, but keep in mind all pre 2000 softail engines are not counter balanced. I have ridden them when they were brand new and they shake so bad you couldn't read the speedometer!
Power you can fix the vibration especially at 90mph youre not going to fix without spending a ton of money as stated! Enjoy
I was rereading this thread and noticed something that confused me a little.
How do you get to own a 2004 Fatboy since 1998?
Just pulling your leg, BTW I love your sig pic, its very clever.
Is that something the photoshop guys worked up for you?
For you info, the new S&S Super G running pretty smooth for my engine and I feel the torque slight better...I have gone through the spec of my Heritage 90 and now I understand it is not the bike problem, and it perform as well like new even almost 20 years old now..seem like I couldn't compare my friend Custom 97 with my Heritage 90 as the power setting is different eventhough there both sharing nearly the same Evo engine..the power to weight ratio also made the different I believe..furthermore, I just got to know my friend one upgraded with the High Compression Head and Crank..
I brought the bike out for a ride and enjoy very much..however, the vibration still need time to adapt as I was riding a Honda Magna 750 before this...but I would say, I prefer Harley style...
Will keep u guys update if I got my budget to start doing up the engine..at the moment I'm planning for the asthetic accessories to make the bike more classical and original..
cheers..

Actually if you read it closely, it lists my FatBoy as a '94 as in 1994, & I got it in 1998 (4 yrs old).....
Just pulling your leg, That's cool, I can take it LOL!!!! BTW I love your sig pic, its very clever.

I change it so often...
If that is the one, I found it on the net & saved it..
My preference in newer bikes are EVOs, After servicing & test riding many, many TC's I don't really want one.. Not impressed..
Evo stock heads flow 10% more than stock TC 88 heads..
My Evos will run with, if not out-run most any TCs around....
ken77-
You added a S&S "G" ???? You mean Super E, don't ya ??
G is for Big inch HDs..
As far as vibes, some have more than others.
But a low cost suggestion would be to add 'foam padded leather covered' hand-grips, those absorb some vibes & do NOT cost much at all..
Glad your '90 is running much better...
But hope you meant a S&S E
