Well, I replaced the stock headlamp with higher wattage Cool Colors HB2 100/80W halogen this spring on my 07 Deluxe. Headlamp went south. In the process of replacing headlamp, I discovered that the connector is fried. Not sure if it was the higher wattage bulb or a power surge. Won;t know until I replace headlamp and see what happens. Worse case, I'll have HD check it out since I'm still under warranty. Never know with electrical on what's covered under warranty. But not a big issue as yet.
Anyways, go a new connector $1.62. Trying to figure out how to remove the pins from socket. It's an AMP connector. I'm using my removal tool around the center of the pin, but not sure why own;t pop out. Usually pretty good at this stuff but got me a little puzzled..
Anyone ever remove the pins and what's the trick??

Your bulb drew too much amperage and burned the socket, I use Silverstar, same wattage and much brighter than stock, never had problem.
For the socket, get a flash light and look inside, use a small pick to pry the plastic lock, one at a time.
Plastic lock? I don;t see a plastic lock. The spaded pin seems to be spring loaded. If I move my tool back and forth inside the spade I can see the spring tension away from plastic housing. I'm pulling on the wire and no luck. Can it be these spaded connectors are that tight inside the plastic housing?
ahhh, auto128 I see it now. Was thinking the pin itself has to be compressed like most others using pin removal tool. I see the plastic tabs, 2 for each. Thankx for heads up and I will be looking at the SilvaStar headlamp. Guess I got a bumb steer from a non-HD bike shop...
Yeah, the fried plug was only $1.62. I kind of played micky the dunce when they asked me if I had replaced the bulb. This is what happens when you rely on these motorcycle shops, thinking they know what they are doing...
Anyways, do I need to consider a heat resistant headlight harness kit (ie, higher heat resistance plug) for these bulbs? Not sure since these are higher intensity (maybe not higher wattage) which are capable to produce more heat. I can;t believe how torched the connector got...
