Default Should I do it?

I took my '08 Softail Custom to Reno HD for service and they were trying to talk me into installing a stage one system on the bike. They were trying to tell me how it would run cooler because HD has these bikes running so lean because of EPA standards. I asked them if they installed these parts would it void my warranty and all they would say is all the parts are HD, and when I got it back how much better it would run, etc. To me it sounds as if something went wrong down the road it would be my problem even if a local HD service dept did all the work. My thought was to do this in three years when it’s out of warranty. What do you think?

Installin the stage 1 on my '05 Deluxe didn't void my warranty...not even the extended warranty...it took care of replacin the cam chain tensioners...but, I don't know if that's official policy or just my shop takin care of me.

Do a stage 1, but do it yourself. It will wake the bike up and also help it run cooler. Look into a complete exhaust system or a good set of slip-ons. Some like the SE slip-ons but 90% of them end up changing to something else anyways. As for the warranty I think it would void just the parts you put on and not the whole bike.

I've shopped/had service at Reno HD before and found them to be straight up. True richening up the mixture does make it run cooler and it will run better so they aren't lying, so no harm in trying to make a sell, right? Never take anyone's "word" in any case; business is business. Have them write you out a disclaimer on the repair order (a legal document in disputes) stating they put the mods on and is covered by the bike's warranty (even under the extended, if applicable). We called it in the Navy CYA (cover your a$$)!

it wont void your warranty man and if they try to pull that on you say that you will buy it from another dealership then i would bet money that they would do it wihtout voiding your membership

I was at the Reno dealer a few weeks ago talking to them about new pipes and they told me it wouldn't void the warranty. Good idea to get it in writing though like Robzuc said. Also, might want to wait until they finish moving across the street and they get the new dyno set-up and used to it.

think everyone on here would have voided warranties if that was the case most people put new pipes on their bikes. ive never had problem with warranty issues because of this.

Won't void the warranty....as a matter of fact most people do the Stage 1 before delivery of the new ride right out the door and included in the price....Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I called them and told them to do it then. They told me it should come in around $1000 if I go with the slip-on instead of the full exhaust pipes.
