No kick, but is a 4 gear. Sounds like I will be having a lot of fun with this bike. I have had it for 4 years and alot of people ask me if I want to sell it. No Thanks! It's mine and I'm keeping it. I know what you mean with the part #'s the dealers seem to be absolutely stupid when I ask for stuff for my bike. So far I have gotten great info, thanks guys. I look forward to getting more and hopefully sharing some of the things I know.

It's an E. Which I found out means 84, the 4 or 5 would be 2004 or 2005.

My uncle has an '84 FXST, 19000 miles on it, cleans up awsome. Stock everything. The only year the bike came with a Kickstart and an elctric start.

I picked up a 84 last month with only 11,000 mi. on it. I love this bike, its got kind of an oldschool look with the kickstarter. My pink slip says its an 83?

WTF is up with you experts? 84 was not the last year of a softail with a kicker, 85 was the last year of a 4-speed with a kicker!

Yep. My 1986 FXSTC came with a 5 speed no kicker. Wished it had a kicker but wasn't going to add one of the aftermarket ones.

Mines kind of at the other end of the sprectrum, but still an EVO. 99 Softail Custom. I just love all the Softail Standards and Customs. I remember when the 84 came out. I drooled on the one at the Harley shop trying to figure out a way to get one. FInally got mine last year with 17,000 miles on it. It now has 27,000 miles on it. Looking at the pictures of the 84's, there is not a lot of difference in looks.
