I'm not really fond of the huge rear fender on the 2007+ fatboys. I like skinnier tires that handle more than fat tires that don't. Get whatever you like, though - it's your money. If I had it to do again, I would have gotten a 2000-2002 model.
Don't really know where you are getting the info regarding the fat rear tire not handling as well as the skinny. You ever seen the tires on a Daytona superbike?
IMHO the rider determines how hard a bike can be ridden more than anything. I'm not great but I drag my floorboards all day long as do many others on here.
Personally I say buy whichever one turns your crank. They are all beautiful machines and a joy to ride.
04 fatboy all the way, didnt like the big wheel or the bullet whole rims. and regardless of the timken bearing, i still believe there just fine. i believe to much nonsence is being made over this new roller bearing not being able to take the hp and tq. harley has them factory installed on all there 103s and 110s so they must be holding up ok. any way all fatboys rule!!!!!!!!!!!

Timkin bearings are on 99 and down fatboy's. 2000 and up have sealed bearings. I like the 2000-2006 style fatboys too, but my opinion has been slightly swayed by my own bike...

Anubisss I disagree with your statement.
ENGINE CRANKCASES 1999-2002 all Twin-Cam engine both Alpha A and the Beta B engines used Timken Bearing on the sprocket side to position crankshaft in crankcases
I've owned a '93 and a '98 and have been away from HD's for the past 8 years. Looked at the new Fat Boys this year, but prefer the older style better. Can anyone tell me why the rear fender was changed around 2000 or so? There is more metal showing under the rear fender support (looks like the fender was squared off a little in this area too?).
I'm looking again for a real low mile bike and although I would prefer a silver '90, I'll take any black pre '07...
im in no hurry to get one but i have a 03 sportster its my first bike. i've had it for 6 months. not sure what year model fatboy is the best.
1990-2000 are Evo motored 5 speeds with solid wheels.
2001-2006 are TC88 motored with 5 speeds and solid wheels. They started adding fuel injection during these years.
2007 is first year with TC96, 6 speed, 200mm rear, 17" bullet hole wheels, different fenders, and all fuel injected. It is a one year bike with respect to some parts.
2008+ are generally the same as the 07' but have different front ends and some other minor differences.
They are all Fatboys; not a wrong choice anywhere.
