Default Muffler difference 2005-2008?

Hi all! I usually hang out on the touring forum, but posting this for a buddy. Anyone know the difference in slip ons between a 2005 Heritage softail and a 2008 model? Is it muffler length? Pipe diameter? Or mounting brackets? Hope someone here has run into this and can help me out. Thanks in advance!

Well, if the '05's are the same as the '03's I can tell you a lot. First of all, the mounting bracket is different. Secondly, the head pipes are different because of the o2 sensors and thirdly, the '03/05 mufflers are shorter but have a longer neck and lastly the '08's have catalysts in them the '05's dont. I took off the new screaming eagles and installed the '03 screaming eagles. Lots of difference in performance and mileage. Better all the way around. My bike is an '07 Heritage. If you want more info, let me know.

Thanks Bowtieman. I have a buddy that has an 08 Heritage softail with stock mufflers and has a chance to buy Screaming Eagle slip ons from a 2005 model. Just didnt know if they would fit without a lot of mods.

Mordrapheus, no need to ask your friend. As stated above, I've done this mod to my '07. As I stated above, there are enough differences to make a good two day job out of changing the mufflers. Welding will be required as will shortening the necks on the earlier model mufflers. Truth be known, for the amount of work necessary to do this job, it would be easier to install a complete, new, exhaust system.
