I bought a temp gauge dipstick (not the digital) but after a while it seems to leak some oil down the fill neck of the oil tank. So, I switched back to the stock dipstick. Now, it is doing the same thing. Just a tiny trickle of oil runs down the neck after I have been riding about an hour or so. Not enough to affect oil level or anything. Can I replace just the rubber gasket or do I need to buy an whole new dipstick?
I too switched to the oil temp gauge. Seemed to be looser than stock. It does somewhat hows signs of oil smears in the oil tank. What I did was wrap plumbers tape a few times around the rubber. That made it a tighter fit. Seems to work ok...
My temp gauge dipstick is actually tighter than the stock one. I stopped using the temp gauge dipstick about a year ago and changed back to the stock one. I just noticed the stock one start to leak recently, so it didn't leak for almost a year after switching back.
Mine did the same thing. I just went to the auto parts store, purchased an 'O' ring that fit tightly around the highest groove on the rubber and re-installed the dip stick. Hasn't leaked a drop since.
Nope, not overfilled. I check it regularly, hot and cold and the level is within specs.
Even if the level is between the lines, it can still be too full. I know that sounds stupid, but on my bike, if I fill the oil bag over 3/4 of the way on the dip stick, it will blow oil out the breather and sometimes leak by the dip stick. You might want to check that out.

great idea, i'll look into that, but I think Sonar Chris has the idea. I thought about that last night. I'll just lower the level to about 3/4 on the dipstick and see how that works. Right now it's exactly at the FULL HOT line when the oil is hot. I lower it some and see what happens.
I was glad to come across this thread.
I recently purchased a 2000 FLSTC, with that dipstick temp gauge installed.
Coming back...350 mile trip.. it leaked until I learned that I simply hadn't seated it properly. I still don't trust it and think I'll try the oring trick.
I've been reluctant to introduce anything like tape for fear that I'd end up with tape in my engine :-)
