I'm sure this topic has been discussed here before. I did a search for vibration and I came up with a lot of threads but most of them heve been deleted. I'm new around here so bear with me a bit.
I have an 03 Night Train and the handelbar vibration has finally gotten to the point where I'm installing some ISO grips. Inside the handel bar I'm going to install some pretty heavy pieces of pipe. The pipe is along the lines of the "roll of nickles" trick that has been used by Sporster rider for years. The pipe I have is a tighter fit than nickles.
Hopefully this will fix the vibration problem. The bikes been checked out at two dealers. There is not a mechanical problem. All they say is "should have bought a Dyna".
I can't go through another riding season with this problem. I took a 50 mile ride today. I got off the bike at 5:PM. It's now 2:30 in the morning and my hands are still a little numb.
I checked out the bar snake and the little weight inserts that are for sale but I think the home made pipe inserts should do it.
I'm gonna do this mod Sunday night.
Does anybody have any last minute suggestions or input?
When all is said and done I'll post the results of my experiment![sm=ts.gif]
Same here, put the street slammers on. I don't know Bro, my Train doesn't vibrate half the amount of my wife's Street Bob. Let us know how it turns out and I might do that to the wife's Dyna if it works.
I just road in to work today on my fatty and my right hand/arm was numb. I was debating on what my next upgrade would be, but after today I know what it's going to be.
The stock fatboy bars put your arms at a stretch.. If they're straight out with no relaxed bend, it inhibits good blood flow. I had a huge problem going numb until I went to heritage bars, which are narrower, taller and more pulled back for easier reach. Problem solved. I never could get the reasoning behind their design of the stock FLSTF bars.. my humble opinion, they're aweful.
I removed my stock grips. Then I installed two 1" pieces of stainless steel pipe, 6 inches long inside of the handlebar to give the bars more weight. (one pipe under each grip)
I then installed new Kuryakyn Iso-Grips with the throttle boss.
I just took the bike for a 12 mile ride for the first time without gloves. There was no vibration. Zero!
I don't know if it's because of the Iso-Grips or because of the weights I installed or both but I'm one happy camper![sm=wootwoot.gif]
