Anybody have experience with this? I've spent the last 4 hours trying to install the Harley garage door opener (91558-01A) and im seriously stuck. The instructions included suck and is written for all softails 96 and newer so there isn't specific instructions for an 08 Rocker. Grrrr...
I finally got the gas tank off to expose the Yellow and White wires for the headlight circuit im suppose to tap into. The kit comes with these "butt splices" that im suppose to use but it doesn't seem like its the most logical thing to use.
Doesn't it make more sense to use a wire tap like these so you wouldn't be interrupting the original headlamp circuit???
Has anybody installed one of these before that could shed some light on this issue???? It just doesn't make any sense to use the included butt splice.
nope, i went with the old garage door opener ran two wires with moment switch...you should be able to use the blue wire tap instead of butt splice..good luck post on how goes so us fellow rockers now how to do it..
I don't see why it wouldn't work other than the possibility of corrosion as the wire taps don't weatherproof well. If you do go that route, it would be a good idea to weatherproof them well; perhaps using butyl with a layer of electrical tape over it.
Here are two more pictures to help illustrate the issue.
First picture is what im stumped on. The yellow and white wires between my fingers are from the transmitter that needs to be tapped into the yellow and white wire in the wire bundle found in the back ground. See the pinkish butt splice? How do I use it to splice into the bundle of wires on the bike? If the headlamp has only 3 wires [yellow, white, and black] coming out of it, which one is the highbeam wire?
Second picture is an illustration of what im trying to do.
I will try and help you out a bit......Cut the yellow head light wire you want to splice with. Trim 1/4 inch of coating from side that transmitter is splicing with. Take both of these wires and crimp them into one side of the connector together. Now take the other end of the head light wire and trim 1/2 inch of coating off the wire. Fold the exposed wire in half and now push it into the unused end of your connector and crimp. Do same for white wire.
Transmitter is now installed on the yellow and white wires. Make sense?
