Default Rear Wheel FXST

I have a 2006 FXST. I bought a chromed version of the rear cast wheel that came with my bike. I am wondering if the removal and install of the wheel is something I could tackle. The manual only suggests that a dealer or mechanic install the wheel to make sure it's straight. Anyone do this themselves and what prob should I be ready for?

It's pretty simple, the only thing that bugs me is the brake caliper is a tight fit when reinstalling the wheel. I measure from the center of the axle to the center of the swingarm pivot bolt to get the alignment right. Get those two measurements the same with the right deflection in the belt and you are golden............

If you haven't taken it apart already, measure carefully like mentioned above BEFORE removing your present wheel, get the same measurements after installation and you will have your alignment correct as well as the belt tension.
Be sure to use Loctite on the sprocket and brake disc mounting bolts.

Thanks for the help guys. They also wanted to know if I needed them to install bearings and the center shaft in the new wheel. I'm thinking I could use the ones I have in the stock wheel since they are the same. The bike has 7000 miles so should I pop the extra 50 for them to install the bearings and a shaft? I'd rather save the money

It's not a hard job. I've had mine on and off lots. just get the measurments right. buy the belt deflection tool from your shop for 10 bucks or whatever and make sure you get the belt tension right.

This is not a new wheel from H-D. It is a wheel like my cast stock wheel that is polished then chrome plated. I'll check and see if my bearings are good to reuse, if not I'll buy new ones.
