I recently bought a Chrome Switch Cap Kit (HD part # 71804-03). I have an 03 Night Train. I took my switch housings apart but I can't figure out how the actual switched come out for replacement. There are little springs in there and it looks like I might need a special tool.
I didn't want to screw anything up so I put everything back together until I research this a little bit.
Make sure you have a wedge in rear break lever first. Do not need any special tools to do it. There is a small brass spring wedge that holds tension on break switch but no springs that I remember in the classic sense. The caps there selfs pop on and off w/ a small flat head. Thought they would break putting them on but didn't. You will have to cut the cable tyes inside housings to get to the switches loose and redo them when finnished. If you have a proticular question I will try to help.
I've done these on my bike and a few of my friends' rides. You just have to pry them off with a small flathead screwdriver. Just when you think they're gonna break, pry a little more and they'll pop off. Also, there are hinge type springs on some or all of the switch caps. PM me if you have any more questions. Good luck.
I didn't cut the cable ties on mine, I just removed the small phillips hd screw under the wires and took the swithches out of the housing. Brush up on you swear words, it's a frustrating job for big fingers. Put the caps on first and put the coil shaped spring on after it's in place, less to wrestle with.
